It’s not a competition unless somebody loses. There is a common misconception that everyone is a winner, and this is simply not true. As Charles Darwin once said, “If I beat you in today’s various Mountaineer Week competitions, you are a loser and I am better than you.”

The Food Court contests are drawing to a close about now, and I can only assume the fallout is brutal. They contained a bizarre mix of corporate sponsored death games, such as:

Dance Competition, Presented by Chick-fil-A
Pie-eating contest, Presented by Burger King
Candy Jar Guess, Presented by J.A.C.S.
Sbarro’s Toss & Fold, Presented by Sbarro’s

Can’t help but notice Taziki’s is absent — you’d think a Greek restaurant would be all about competition. Who wouldn’t want to see Taziki’s sponsored Colosseum-style madness? Maybe that’s just me.

If you missed those games, you still have time to prepare for today’s main event: the Ultimate Scavenger Hunt.

At 3 p.m. today, November 8th, WVU will be hosting a school-wide scavenger hunt, beginning at the Lair and ending in a secret location, everything being accessible by school transit systems, like the bus or PRT. Participants can form teams of four to work together, solving clues at each location until convening at the undisclosed end. Participants have until 5 p.m. to finish the hunt, or they lose.

Legally I’m obligated to tell you to play fair and stay in school spirit.

Do anything it takes to win.

Once again, I really your “voice” and the way it comes out in all of your posts (I enjoy this is your personal blog as well). I like this post because I am a huge fan of Mountaineer Week, and I don’t think the student body as a whole knows everything that they offer throughout the week (even those of us who have been here for a long time). I think your links helped elevate this above the “calendar post” we are always talking about it class, but you are such a such a good writer, I can’t wait to read more posts from you that fall outside that category.

Thanks! Though, to be honest, this was a very rushed post, as my original idea for a post proved to be impossible for that week. So, I’m not that happy with this one. But, if you liked it, then I guess it’s a win!

Although you said this was a rushed post it isn’t really lacking in quality. Because of the fun tone it served as a brief overview of sorts. Little things like the bit about Tazikis and the “legally obligatory” statement at the end give this post personality and identity, which makes up for the briefness of it.

Good article in general. One thing that might have been interesting to include is a brief summary of all the competitions and what each one is about. After reading the comments, I understand that you kind of had to rush to get this one out, but you could always go back and add a bit more information in. All in all though it was a good post and good job adding your own voice to it. It made it more fun and definitely more appealing to readers.
